Run by Singapore-based Aussies Susan Soulard and Anne Bradley, The Whole Kitchen was an online business which expanded to their first brick-and-mortar bakery cafe. Prepare to be charmed by this cosy white space spruced up with bright lights and vibrant greenery. Pick a seat outside and bask in the welcoming ambience and cool breeze. You’re all set for a relaxing day ahead.

The avocado came without any seasoning other than a lemon wedge so it’s a definite yes when the staff came over asking if I’d like any salt and pepper. The salad was very fresh with a hint of mint; I just wish they added a bit of dressing like olive oil. It also hit me after I was 80% through with my meal that this MIGHT have been a deconstructed meal (so kraut on the avo toast, egg and pepper pepitas on the salad) so maybe I did it all wrong but it was still a good meal regardless!
Once a limited-edition item, the Wildflower Honey Scone ($5) became a permanent fixture on their menu. I was expecting it to be served with chia jam and mascarpone (as it was written so on its little card) so I was a bit disappointed when it came with just a slab of butter on the side. Make sure to eat it together with the scone or you might find the latter a tad too dry. The scone exuded gentle fragrances of honey, but I felt that the flavours were quickly overshadowed by the dry crumbly texture.

My only regret was that I couldn’t stick around for lunch because their lunch menu sounded so good. Think Truffle Brie Toasties ($16) and Salmon Avocado Charcoal Rolls ($18). Maybe eating healthy isn’t so bad after all.
