黄金烧腊黄金烤炭siew - 美味的大意和$ 1的手工制作的Ngoh Hiang在Whampoa食品中心!
There’s nothing more comforting than slurping up a plate of springy wanton mee, especially when it’s at an affordable price! Hidden in the back rows of Whampoa Food Centre, 黄金烧腊 Golden Roast Char Siew has been serving their popular wanton mee, ngoh hiang, and roasted meats for years.
The stall is opened by the jovial Mr Tan and his wife. Mr Tan shared that he secretly learnt how to cook wanton mee while working in a F&B business, and set up his first stall at Golden Landmark in Bugis after that. Mr Tan and his wife then shifted to Ubi Ave 1 and renamed their stall. It was there that they spent about 32 years dishing out plate after plate of yummy noodles. The elderly couple finally settled down at their current stall in Whampoa two years ago.
Mr Tan also explained how they make their roasted char siew and ngoh hiang from scratch every morning.
For its price, the Wanton Noodle ($3) definitely shocked me with its abundance of ingredients. The wanton noodle was served with a bowl of dumpling soup, and featured thick cuts of char siew neatly placed on top of the noodles. The char siew had a good caramelisation on its exterior and was succulent on the inside. The noodles were springy and delectably coated in sauce. The dumplings were stuffed full of minced meat, and their thin skin was just thick enough to encase the filling without breaking.
I couldn’t resist getting the stall’s popular Wu Xiang (1pc) ($1) that had been fried to a crisp, and was juicy and moist on the inside. I would highly recommend ordering this alongside the Wanton Noodle.
Overall, 黄金烧腊 Golden Roast Char Siew delivered in their execution of homey and budget-friendly wanton mee and ngoh hiang. So, pop by to grab a plate and enjoy some playful banter with the elderly couple. I’m sure I’ll be back!

Black sauce/tomatoe sauce makes a good bowl of wanton-mee? Just had a bowl of the black sauce wanton noodle(no chilli) there this morning and was dissapointed.
